2010 Public Library Trustee Regional Conferences
The Utah State Library (USL) and the Utah Library Association (ULA) have collaborated to sponsor regional Public Library Trustee Conferences with multiple objectives for each organization. This first ever program of its kind in the Utah Public Library Community entails four regional training sessions for library trustees within North, North Central, South Central and South regions of the State to:
- Present a unique opportunity for Trustees to come together to develop stronger leadership among library boards
- Discuss and identify Trustee and Director 21st Century Skills
- Share ideas for meeting the economic challenges
- Assist Trustees to better understand their duties and responsibilities
- Highlight the many resources available to Trustees from both USL and ULA
- Enhance the rapport among library Trustees in the region, and with Utah State Library and the Utah Library Association
The North and North Central Trustee Regional Conferences held late last year were an unquestionable success. There were 35 trustees and library directors from 15 libraries in the North region who came together in Logan on November 5, and 41 attendees from 20 libraries in the North Central region who came to Salt Lake City on November 18. Participant comments included; "entertaining, not boring, fast paced", "It made me think about planning for the future …", "like the 'broader vision' discussion", "I learned a lot", "excellent information", "excellent material", "it was great time spent", "fascinating topics and very valuable recommendations", "packed w/info - no fluff", "Donna was very engaging", and "loved hearing ideas from other libraries".
The Utah Library Association will generously provide lunch, and mileage reimbursement for one vehicle per library.
